In August 2014, the Society of Architectural Historians headquarters, the National Historic Landmark Charnley-Persky House, sustained severe damage from flooding caused by a clogged 19th-century sewer pipe.
Once the damage to Charnley-Persky House was announced, SAH received a tremendous show of support and concern from individuals and organizations to repair and restore the house. SAH board member Cynthia Weese, FAIA, and her husband, Ben Weese, FAIA, contributed a $10,000 challenge match to raise funds, which was quickly met and then exceeded. The SAH board of directors and staff sincerely thank all of these donors.
As a result of this support, SAH has developed a Friends of Charnley-Persky House donor group to recognize individuals who make donations to support ongoing restoration and educational programs at Charnley-Persky House. The donors who supported the flood repairs between August 14 and December 31, 2014, are recognized as the Founding Friends of Charnley-Persky House (see listing below).
Beginning January 1, 2015, donors of $50 or more will become a Friend of Charnley-Persky House and receive benefits associated with the designated giving levels. Contributions to Friends of Charnley-Persky House will support ongoing maintenance and restoration of the National Historic Landmark and its educational programming. New donor names will be added to the list on a quarterly basis.
