 | SAH Launches New Student Outreach Program The Society of Architectural Historians is pleased to announce its new American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip program for students. The goal of the program is for SAH, its members, its chapters and affiliated organizations to host student field trips focusing on architecture, landscapes, urbanism and historic preservation. Led by architectural historians, architects, preservationists, and local experts, the tours are intended to reach students in high schools and community colleges and provide opportunities to engage in experiential learning.

 | SAH Announces 2014 H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship Recipient The Society of Architectural Historians has awarded Patricia Blessing the 2014 H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship. The prestigious $50,000 fellowship allows a recent graduate or emerging scholar to travel for one year to see and experience architecture and landscapes firsthand.

 | Registration Open for Architecture in the Rio de la Plata Basin: Between Tradition and Cosmopolitanism
This SAH Field Seminar takes you to two South American nations united by the river between them, Uruguay and Argentina. Explore the architecture of the Rio de la Plata Basin with SAH 2nd Vice President Sandy Isenstadt and architect Natalia Muñoa. This seminar features an itinerary customized for SAH members and includes visits to sites not open to the general public, supplemental lectures, and a significant educational component designed to enhance your experience of the architecture, landscapes, and culture of the region.

 | Study Day at MoMA and UN Headquarters This two-part SAH Study Day will preview a new exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Latin America in Construction: Architecture 1955–1980, scheduled to open officially on March 29, and will take a behind-the-scenes look at the United Nations Headquarters Capital Master Plan, a seven-year project to renovate and preserve this icon of mid-century modernism conceived, in large part, by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. Curator Barry Bergdoll, Assistant Secretary-General Michael Adlerstein, and SAH 2nd VP Sandy Isenstadt will host the program.

 | Meet the 2015 SAH International Travel Grant Recipients SAH recently announced the recipients of the 2015 SAH International Travel Grant Program, generously funded by the Getty Foundation. The grants are intended to provide funding to scholars from countries that have traditionally been underrepresented at the SAH Annual Conference to attend the 68th Annual International Conference, which will take place in Chicago, April 15-19, 2015. SAH is pleased to introduce the recipients of the 2015 SAH International Travel Grant Program and looks forward to welcoming them in Chicago.

Opportunities are available to prepare and distribute registration materials; monitor the 36 paper sessions, six midday programs, and SAH Chicago Seminar; and check-in tour participants.

 | New Frank Lloyd Wright Reciprocal Sites Program for Upper-Level Members New for 2015, SAH has joined forces with the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust to offer the Frank Lloyd Wright National Reciprocal Sites Membership Program for all upper-level members (includes Supporting, Patron, Donor, Life, and Benefactor membership levels). If you join or renew as an upper-level member, you will receive a special sticker on your SAH membership card that will entitle you to visit 30 Wright-designed sites across the United States for free or at a reduced rate during 2015.

 | SAH to Collaborate with Lake Forest College on Archeological Dig In summer 2015, SAH will collaborate with Lake Forest College on an urban archeological dig at our headquarters, Charnley-Persky House in Chicago. The dig, which has been underwritten by a four-year grant of $800,000 to the Lake Forest College Center for Chicago Programs from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is designed to involve the College’s students and faculty in three urban archeological digs in a variety of Chicago neighborhoods.

 | New Hawaii Content Added to SAH Archipedia We are pleased to announce that 366 new photographs of Hawaiian buildings have been added to SAH Archipedia. Now, 311 of 477 building entries covering the state of Hawaii are fully illustrated, including 92 of the 100 entries accessible via SAH Archipedia Classic Buildings.

 | Harar and Old Goa: Architectural Hybridity on the Periphery SAH Blog post by Amber N. Wiley, 2013 H. Allen Brooks Fellow I started the New Year in Harar, Ethiopia, where I was one of few who actually acknowledged the event. The day was like any other day for most Hararis. Ethiopian New Year falls on September 11 (September 12 in the leap year) so there were no fireworks in the sky the night before. It was quite surreal to wake up in a traditional Harari house in this historic walled city and think about the year that lay ahead.

| Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House Reopens February 13 marks the official reopening of Hollyhock House, Frank Lloyd Wright's first Los Angeles project, located in the heart of Barnsdall Art Park. | Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon at the Getty Research Institute to Focus on Architecture and Design Join online magazine East of Borneo and librarians and other staff from the Getty on Saturday, February 21, 11 am to 4 pm to learn how to edit Wikipedia and to help fill gaps in its coverage of architecture and design, people and places in Los Angeles. | Chapter and Partner News The Northeast Chapter of SAH (NESAH) will welcome Maureen Meister, author of Arts & Crafts Architecture: History and Heritage in New England at its Annual Meeting this month. Two graduate students have been awarded fellowships: Erin McKellar (Boston University) is the recipient of this year's Robert Rettig Student Annual Meeting Fellowship Award; Bryan Norwood (Harvard University) will do archival work at the University of Michigan and University of Cincinnati with the support of the John Coolidge Research Fellowship. The Philadelphia Chapter of SAH introduced its new website (www.philachaptersah.org) to chapter members at its Annual Pizza & Pictures Party on January 22, 2015. The Construction History Society of America (CHSA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study of the history and evolution of all aspects of the built environment, is holding its 5th International Congress on Construction History in Chicago, IL, June 3-7, 2015. This is the first time the Congress has been held outside Europe. Architects, engineers, contractors, preservationists, academics and a wide variety of trades, professions and interests associated with the Construction Industry would find interest in session topics. The Society of Historians of East European, Eurasian, and Russian Art and Architecture (SHERA) runs a website, electronic listserv and Facebook page, reflecting on research, publications, exhibitions, conferences and news feed from individual and institutional members. SHERA organizes sponsored sessions at affiliated societies’ scholarly conferences and offers memberships at no charge for students and unaffiliated scholars from Eastern Europe, Eurasia and Russia. In January, Natasha Kurchanova was elected SHERA president, with Eva Forgacs as vice-president/president-elect. The Society for the Study of Architecture in Canada (SSAC) is pleased to announce the 2015 Phyllis Lambert Prize. Each year, the Phyllis Lambert Prize is awarded by UQAM's Canada Research Chair on Urban Heritage to a candidate who has submitted the best doctoral dissertation on the subject of architecture, architectural history and urban heritage in Canada, based on the assessment of an independent jury. The Phyllis Lambert Prize consists of a certificate of recognition that comes with a $1500 scholarship awarded by the Canada Research Chair on Urban Heritage. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2015.
