 | SAH Receives 3-Year Grant from The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation The Society of Architectural Historians has been awarded a general operating grant of $150,000 from The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Fund at The Chicago Community Foundation. SAH will receive the grant in three annual installments of $50,000, beginning in 2015.

 | SAH Receives Tawani Foundation Grant The Society of Architectural Historians has been awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Tawani Foundation to support activities related to the Society’s 75th anniversary. COL (IL) Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Ret), president and founder of the Tawani Foundation, is among the members of the SAH 75th Anniversary Honorary Committee.

 | Recap of the SAH 68th Annual International Conference Nearly 800 SAH members participated in the Society’s 68th Annual International Conference and 75th anniversary celebrations that took place in Chicago, Illinois, from April 15–19, 2015. Attendees hailed from 36 countries and 42 states. A brief recap of the conference’s events follows.

 | Call for Papers: SAH 69th Annual International Conference SAH is accepting abstracts for the SAH 69th Annual International Conference to be held in Pasadena/Los Angeles, CA, April 6-10, 2016. Please submit abstracts no later than June 9, 2015, for one of the 38 thematic sessions, Graduate Student Lightning Talks or for open sessions. The thematic sessions have been selected to cover topics across all time periods and architectural styles.

| Upcoming Call for Conference Proposals Between June 9 and August 14, 2015, SAH will be accepting proposals for roundtable discussions, meetings, and informational presentations for the 2016 SAH Annual International Conference to be held in Pasadena/Los Angeles, April 6–10. A limited number of slots will be available for the mid-day break and during the hours of the daily conference proceedings.

 | Buildings of North Dakota Now Available For many people outside the state, North Dakota conjures visions of a remote, sparse, and seemingly inhospitable landscape, replete with ghost towns, scattered farmsteads, and settings reminiscent of the movie Fargo. Yet beyond this facile image lies a spectacular array of high-style, vernacular, ethnic, and modern buildings, a pragmatic architecture that reflects the setting and settlers of the Great Plains.

 | Charnley-Persky House Restoration Update We are pleased to report that repair and restoration work on the Charnley-Persky House has been completed following flood damage sustained in August 2014. The walls and flooring in the house’s lower level have recently been restored, and the house is looking better than ever.

 | An American in Saigon SAH Blog post by Brooks Fellow Amber N. Wiley April 30, 2015 marked the 40th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. This event was highlighted in posters all throughout Vietnam, from Ho Chi Minh City in the south, to Hue in central Vietnam, and Hanoi in the north. The posters displayed images of proud men, women, and children—farmers, graduates, businessmen, and servicemen.

 | Bury the Lantern: The Other Side of Promoting Farm Electrification SAH Blog post by Sarah Rovang In the late 1930s and early 1940s, numerous farm communities across the United States gathered to enact lantern funerals, the ritualized interring of antiquated kerosene lamps. Cloaked in the guise of mourning, these parodic rites were actually celebrations of the arrival of electric lighting in the rural landscape.

 | MoMA/UN Study Day Report By Study Tour Fellow Jennifer Tate The Museum of Modern Art’s current exhibition, Latin America in Construction: 1955-1980, marks the first time since 1955 that the institution has presented architecture in Latin America. Participants in SAH’s MoMA/UN Study Day on March 27, 2015 were treated to a preview of the show by Dr. Barry Bergdoll, then-Chief Curator of Architecture and Design and currently a professor of architectural history at Columbia University.

| SAH Chapter and Partner News The Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (SESAH) invites you to submit abstracts to its 2015 annual conference, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas, on October 14-17. The deadline for the call for papers has been extended to June 1st. The call for papers and registration information may be found on the SESAH website. Analyze the evolution of multigenerational builders and contractors as changing technology and regulations influenced their business longevity and growth. The 5th International Congress on Construction History announces We Built Chicago the evening of June 5th, 2015. The Emerging Scholars Committee of the Italian Art Society has inaugurated a new mentoring program that matches established scholars with graduate students and junior scholars with similar interests.
