As we approach the end of the calendar year and begin a new year of programming, we invite you to make a contribution to the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) Annual Fund to ensure that the Society carries out its mission to promote the study, interpretation and conservation of the built environment locally, nationally and globally in the coming year. With the financial support of its members and friends, SAH leads the way for architectural historians and other professionals in shaping the history of the built environment.

Beyond membership dues and events, SAH secures grants and donor support for specific projects and programs throughout the year to provide member resources, but individual contributions to the Annual Fund bring much-needed unrestricted revenue that provides flexibility to assist with general operations and educational programming. Your support of the Annual Fund will help ensure that SAH continues to provide quality programming and resources to its members at all stages of study and career, and serve our next generation of leaders, with programs such as:

  • Annual International Conference held in Glasgow, Scotland, in June gave 185 members the opportunity to present their research to almost 600 scholars from 39 countries around the globe. The 2018 conference will take place in Saint Paul, MN, in April 2018.
  • Fellowships and Awards provided 59 members with financial resources to both pursue and publish research, to travel and to participate in the annual conference.
  • International Field Seminars and Study Days offer intensive, scholarly study of architecture and landscapes around the world, and give participants unique and behind-the-scenes experiences developed and led by experts. This year’s Study Days were Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design at The Jewish Museum, and Frank Lloyd Wright at 150: Unpacking the Archive at MoMA. This year’s Field Seminar to southern China begins in December.
  • Publications including the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians (JSAH) disseminate the highest quality scholarly articles on topics from all periods of history globally, reviews of recent books, exhibitions, media, and editorials and opinion pieces. The SAH Publication Awards recognize the scholarly merit of recently published books in all fields of the built environment, and Buildings of the United States (BUS) our award-winning book series is documenting the architecture of the United States state-by-state.
  • Digital Resources like SAH Archipedia and SAHARA keep SAH in the forefront of technology, available to members and to the public, documenting architecture and landscapes nationally and globally.
  • Charnley-Persky House, our National Historic Landmark headquarters, now has a Conservation Management Plan that will guide our maintenance and care of this architectural jewel in the coming years.

Whatever resource you value the most from SAH, your contribution today to the Annual Fund will contribute to keeping SAH the leader in the discourse on the built environment around the world. Your gift, large or small, is gratefully appreciated. A return envelope is included, or you may donate online at sah.org/donate.

With Best Wishes for the Holiday Season and the New Year,
