With the recent passing of architect John Portman,  a lecture given by SAH member Charles E. Rice at the Charnley-Persky House on October 12, 2017 now contributes timely and thoughtful consideration to Portman's legacy.  In a co-sponsored program with MAS Context, Rice speaks about his recent work, Interior Urbanisim.  A 45-minute video of the lecture follows below.

Charles E. Rice is Professor of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney. He is the author of The Emergence of the Interior: Architecture, Modernity, Domesticity (Routledge, 2007) and Interior Urbanism: Architecture, John Portman and Downtown America (Bloomsbury, 2016). He is editor in chief of The Journal of Architecture, the scholarly journal of the RIBA.  He has been a member of SAH since 2003.

MAS Context, a quarterly journal created by MAS Studio, addresses issues that affect the urban context, edited by architect Iker Gil.  Each issue delivers a comprehensive view of a single topic through the active participation of people from different fields and different perspectives who, together, instigate the debate.  MAS Context is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois.  SAH has collaborated with MAS Context on various programs since 2014.
