Meet-the-Speaker Reception to follow

Jane Curley obtained her PhD from Yale University. An independent scholar and curator, Dr. Curley has focused on the great Victorian illustrators of the 19th century. She has curated several exhibitions at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA and divides her time between New York City and the Catskills. The second half of the 19th century ushered in a golden age for children's books. Meant to provide edification and entertainment, these works were designed with both aesthetic and moral issues in mind. Innovations in printing allowed such nursery greats as Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott, Kate Greenaway and William Nicholson to create appealing fusions of art, design and literature that still are popular today. Join Jane Curley, for an overview of some of the best (and worst!) examples.
