Thanks! 13:04:43 From Kathleen James-Chakraborty to Panelists : Note that Lois How and Julia Morgan do not primarily enter through apprenticeship. Howe had a degree in architecture from MIT; Morgan had a civil engineering degree from Berkeley and was the first woman to graduate from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts! 13:05:18 From Kathleen James-Chakraborty to Panelists : Eleanor Morgan and her partner Ethel Powers were both strong supporters of women’s suffrage. 13:06:29 From Candace Iron to Panelists : These were wonderful talks. Thank you all for sharing. If any of you are interested, the Society for the Study of Architecture in Canada (SSAC)published an issue of their journal that is devoted to women and architecture. It is open access: https://www.erudit.org/en/journals/jssac/2019-v44-n1-jssac05029/?fbclid=IwAR3QL1Lk7JgIaD0mvJ2Xy6hDqErvTLritbhHdVS3N2Xc2Aa5_oxGimLN2OA 13:14:51 From Claire O'Mahony to Everyone : Thank you for a splendid set of talks and discussion! My question centres on access to resources and professional qualifications. 'Lady' students at Oxbridge could only attend lectures if chaperoned, only securing formal degrees in the 1920s. Access to the key libraries were delimited to male students well into the 1950s at John Hopkins University - might the speakers have insights on to what extent such infrastructural barriers pertained in the path to architectural qualifications across a range of institutions? 13:22:12 From Suzanne Ewing to Panelists : struck by how the contextualising of just 6 individuals opens much larger conversations- on material feminism, living experiments; stratifications of education; personal + work ecologies. Thanks to all speakers and organisers. Lots of long standing historical and cultural work to build on that younger generations also can be pointed to. 13:23:09 From lidewij tummers to Panelists : The lack of scholarship is not for want of interest, but for lack of resources and recognition! Many thanks for contributing to the body of knowledge with this seminar 13:26:05 From clairebonney to Panelists : International Archives of Women in Architecture, Blacksburg, Virginia 13:26:58 From Stephanie Clarkson to Panelists : its really interesting to mention younger people doing research, because when I was in architecture school (late 90's - early 00's) I was very interested in exploring what feminist architecture was and was so inspired by some of today's panelists. I felt that what I was interested in exploring had not been written, but was not well guided to continue researching. 13:27:19 From Bethany Claus Widick (she/her) to Panelists : I probably don’t count as “young” (45) but I am in my first year of Ph.D studies at the Courtauld. I am researching the architectural history of women’s clubs in Victorian & Edwardian London, a gendered spatial analysis. There are intriguing tidbits I’ve found to suggest that some of the club patrons were involved in the club design (especially interior architecture) but it is very hard to come by! 13:27:29 From Betty Torrell to Panelists : Anna, I would be interested in talking with you about the profession of architecture in Latvia pre-war. I am doing research on University of Washington Professor Emerita Astra Zarina. 13:29:32 From Helena Dean, SAH Director of Communications to Everyone : Yes, we will share the chat. 13:29:43 From Helena Dean, SAH Director of Communications to Everyone : Sure 13:29:50 From Sarah Elizabeth Wheat to Panelists : Yes, please share all of the resources added to the Q&A 13:30:30 From Helena Dean, SAH Director of Communications to Everyone : Thank you all for joining us!
