  • 2014 David Stanley Gebhard Award

    Dates: 03 Oct – 06 Dec, 2013
    The Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (MNSAH) invites the submission of articles and books on the subject of Minnesota architectural history to the ninth David Stanley Gebhard Award, which honors the late Minnesota-born SAH president and nationally renowned writer, whose subjects included this state’s architectural history.

    Books and articles submitted must have been published between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2013. Submissions must be received no later than December 6, 2013.

    Judging will be by a three-judge panel appointed by MNSAH. The winners will be announced and the awards, along with an honorarium, will be presented in spring 2014.

    Rules for the award program:

    • Only articles or books focusing on some historical aspect of the Minnesota built environment will be considered. The major criterion is how well the book or article strikes a balance between scholarship and accessibility. 
    • Books and articles submitted must have been published between July 1, 20011, and June 30, 2013.
    • There will be separate award categories for articles and books. 
    • Judges reserve the right to withhold selection of an award if a minimum of three books or five articles are not submitted or if the submissions do not meet the criteria of the Gebhard Award. 
    • There is no restriction as to the author’s place of residence. 
    • Applicants should send three copies of the nominated work to:

    • Submissions must be received no later than Decesmber 6, 2013. Earlier submissions are strongly encouraged to allow judges as much review time as possible. 
    • The award winners will receive an honorarium ($300 for the book, $100 for the article), a one-year membership in MNSAH, and a framed certificate.

  • Photographing Industrial Architecture: Steel, Bricks & Power

    Joseph E.B. Elliot, professor of art, Muhlenberg College, engages and records the industrial heritage of the United States through photography. Join us for a lecture by the artist, a discussion that will explore his work for the Historic American Engineering Record's Bethlehem Steel recording project and at other sites across the United States.

  • SACRPH 2013 Graduate Student Workshop in Planning History

    Toronto | Dates: 03 – 06 Oct, 2013
    The Society for American City and Regional Planning History (SACRPH; sacrph.org) invites graduate students enrolled in PhD, master’s degree, and professional degree programs to participate in the Graduate Student Workshop in Planning History to be held at the Fifteenth National Conference on Planning History in Toronto, Canada, October 3-6, 2013.

    The workshop will focus on the production and communication of research in planning history and continues SACRPH’s tradition of providing graduate students with an intellectual and social climate to launch careers and contribute to the scholarship of planning history.

    At the workshop students will work in small groups with a senior faculty member to address questions and receive feedback on their research projects and other research-related questions. Students’ proposals will be distributed to student and faculty participants in advance of the workshop.

    You will receive a confirmation message upon sending your abstract to us. Acceptance announcements will be sent via email by June 15th 2013. Accepted presenters must confirm via email that they will present at the conference by June 30th 2013 and register for the conference by July 15th 2013. Please note that registering for the conference will include a (one-year) membership in the Black Doctoral Network Inc. In addition, early bird registration prices are available to presenters only even after the early bird date has passed.
