Dreaming of his design for the capital: Walter Burley Griffin, circa 1912, the year of the competition deadline. It was early 1912 and Walter Burley Griffin was in hot water with his new wife, Marion. For a decade he had dreamt of designing Australia's capital city and now with nine weeks looming to the international competition deadline, Walter had started nothing.
In a rage, Marion told the hapless Walter that if he didn't start on his grand design that day she wouldn't do a ''stroke of drafting on the thing''.
