  SAH Announces New International Travel Grant
The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) announces the 2015 SAH International Travel Grant Program, which provides funding to scholars from countries that have traditionally been underrepresented at the SAH Annual Conference to attend the 2015 conference in Chicago. Read More
     
  Recap of the SAH 67th Annual Conference in Austin, TX
Nearly 600 SAH members participated in the Society’s 67th Annual Conference that took place in Austin, Texas, from April 9-13, 2014. The 2014 Annual Conference kicked off Wednesday with an opening reception at the Hyatt Regency Austin, followed by the SAH Annual Business Meeting that included the election of officers and board members.     Buildings of Vermont Wins Preservation Award
Glenn Andres and Curtis Johnson have received a Preservation Award from the Preservation Trust of Vermont for their work on the recently published Buildings of Vermont volume. The awards, presented at the Trust’s 20th Annual Historic Preservation & Downtown Conference on May 2, in Island Pond, Vermont, celebrate outstanding contributions in the field of historic preservation and recognize individuals and organizations that have been instrumental to the preservation of Vermont’s historic places.
     
  Ann Baird Whiteside Wins Nancy DeLaurier Award from VRA 
The Visual Resources Association (VRA) presented the winners of the organization’s highest honors at a Membership and Awards Dinner on March 13, 2014, at the Visual Resources Association's 32nd annual conference, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. VRA presented the Nancy DeLaurier Award for distinguished achievement in the field of visual resources to Ann Baird Whiteside of Harvard University. Whiteside was honored for her leadership in the development and implementation of the SAH's SAHARA Project. Read More

On February 15th, Istanbul's new metro line officially went into service. The project, initiated by the Greater Istanbul Municipality in 2005, unites the city's various metro lines, extending trains in Taksim Square directly into the old city, with connections to Atatürk Airport and the opposite Anatolian shore.   Good Night: A Dazzling New Era of Metropolitan Light

The lights of New York dazzled Vladimir Mayakovski when he came to visit in 1925. The revolutionary poet of modernism felt “a constant electrical breeze” in the great city, powering trains to the horizon and elevators to the stars, igniting the metropolitan elements; "the buildings are glowing with electricity,” he wrote. Bewitched, he stared hard into the dizzying views, his vision racing down the vanishing streets netted with wires and lights. Read More
     
    Team-Based Learning for Art Historians

Call for Papers: SAH-Sponsored Session at 2015 CAA Conference 
As an affiliated society with the College Art Association (CAA), the Society of Architectural Historians is able to sponsor a session at CAA Annual Conferences. Luis M. Castañeda and Patricio del Real are co-chairing the SAH-sponsored session of the 2015 CAA Annual Conference, titled "Expanding the Modern Debate: Architects’ Writings in Latin America." (See full description below.) The 2015 CAA conference takes place February 11-14 in New York City. Deadline June 15. Read More
 
SAH Signs Letter Urging for Preservation of Ayasofya Müzesi in Istanbul 
On behalf of SAH, Abigail Van Slyck signed the following letter urging Ömer Çelik, Turkey's Minister of Culture and Tourism, to reconsider the conversion of Ayasofya Müzesi in Istanbul into a mosque and to preserve the country's monumental legacy. Read More

Update on CAA's Copyright and Fair Use Issues Report
The College Art Association (CAA) recently published a report about copyright and fair use in the visual arts. Based on interviews and a field-wide survey, Copyright, Permissions, and Fair Use among Visual Artists and the Academic and Museum Visual Arts Communities: An Issues Report was published in February 2014 on CAA’s website and in a limited number of printed copies. President Nominates William D. Adams as Chairman of the NEH 
A native of Birmingham, Michigan, Adams earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy at Colorado College and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Cruz History of Consciousness Program. He studied in France as a Fulbright Scholar before beginning his career in higher education with appointments to teach political philosophy at Santa Clara University in California and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chapter & Partner News 
The New England Chapter of SAH is pleased to announce that Sarah Rovang (Brown University) has been awarded the 2014 John Coolidge Research Fellowship. The chapter recently sponsored a teaching symposium on online teaching organized by Amanda Reeser Lawrence and Lucy Maulsby of Northeastern University. NESAH’s spring tour, organized by Milda Richardson, was an informative tour of the Historic Mill District in Lawrence MA. Read More 

The annual meeting of the St. Louis Chapter of SAH will take place on June 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church, UCC (826 Union Blvd., St. Louis). The meeting will include a tour of Windermere Place. RSVP to Esley Hamilton at 615-0357.

The Michael Heim Translation Prize will be awarded for the first time in 2014, and annually thereafter, for the best collegial translation of a journal article from an East European language into English. The prize is sponsored by East European Politics & Societies and Cultures (EEPS), which will publish the winning article. Deadline September 1. EEPS is sponsored by the American Council of Learned Societies. Read More

On April 15, 2014, the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) launched the first issue of its newest publication, the Multimedia & Technology Reviews (M&T Reviews), a e-publication made freely available on the ARLIS/NA website. M&T Reviews targets projects, products, events and issues within the broad realm of multimedia and technology as they pertain to arts scholarship, research and librarianship. The first issue includes a review of SAH Archipedia by Barret Havens.

The Construction History Society of America invites researchers and practitioners from all aspects of the history of construction to submit paper abstracts for the 5th International Congress on Construction History, to be held in Chicago, June 3-7, 2015.

The Visual Resources Association is accepting proposals for its 33rd Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, March 11-14. Deadline July 3. Read More

SAH/Mellon Author Awards: Funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this award is designed to provide financial relief to scholars who are publishing their first monograph on the history of the built environment and who are responsible for paying for rights and permissions for images in their publications. Deadline: June 1
