SAH to Expand Charnley-Persky House Tours During Chicago Architecture Biennial

UPDATE: The cost for tours has been updated: $10 adults and ALL advanced reserved tickets; $8 senior (over 65)/student (with ID) (walk-in ONLY); $5 youth 5-12 (walk-in ONLY). Tours on Wednesdays at noon remain free of charge.

The Society of Architectural Historians, in partnership with the Chicago Architecture Biennial, will present an expanded tour program of its National Historic Landmark headquarters, the Charnley-Persky House, during the Biennial. Guided tours of the house will be offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. between October 7 and December 23. All tours are open to the public.
Designed by the firm Adler & Sullivan (1891–1892), the Charnley-Persky House, located in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood, is one of the few extant buildings that displays the combined talents of Louis Sullivan and his draftsman at the time, Frank Lloyd Wright. The house is recognized as a seminal work in the development of modern residential design as well as a keystone in the architectural philosophies of Sullivan and Wright.
“We are delighted to partner with the Chicago Architecture Biennial by opening SAH’s landmark headquarters to national and international visitors during the run of the Biennial,” said SAH Executive Director Pauline Saliga. “Through its many publications and programs, SAH promotes meaningful public engagement with the history of the built environment and its role in shaping contemporary life. We welcome this opportunity to reach new audiences.”

The Chicago Architecture Biennial seeks to convene the world’s leading practitioners, theorists, and commentators in the field of architecture and urbanism to explore, debate, and demonstrate the significance of architecture to contemporary society.
