The Society of Architectural Historians will host its 2018 Awards Gala on Friday, November 2, at The Arts Club of Chicago, and will present the SAH Awards for Architectural Excellence to Cynthia Weese, FAIA, Robert A.M. Stern, FAIA, Harry Hunderman, FAIA, and Deborah Slaton.

  Future of the Past Campaign Update
Last month SAH launched a fundraising campaign to secure an NEH matching grant for SAH Archipedia. Thanks to our generous donors, since June 1 the Future of the Past campaign has raised $15,205 toward our $40,000 goal. With your support we can raise the remaining $24,795 by August 31. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar and will support making the site a mobile optimized, open access digital resource, available to a global audience for free.

Palmyra   Heritage Conservation Committee Issues Position Statement
On June 22, the SAH Heritage Conservation Committee issued a position statement on the reproduction of lost buildings and construction of unbuilt designs. The statement outlines three issues to be addressed when institutions consider reconstruction.

Each year, the Society presents a silent auction at the SAH Awards Gala, our largest fundraising event of the year. SAH is accepting donations of architectural objects and experiences that gala attendees will have the opportunity to bid on at the event. Auction proceeds benefit SAH’s educational programs and publications and the continued restoration of our landmark headquarters in Chicago, the Charnley-Persky House.

The SAH Marion Dean Ross (Pacific Northwest) chapter held its May 2018 annual conference in Astoria, OR, hosted by the Clatsop Community College Historic Preservation & Restoration program. James Buckley, director of the University of Oregon Historic Preservation Program, was the keynote speaker. Plans were made to hold our 2019 conference in Sandpoint, Coeur d’Alene and Wallace, Idaho. Registration for the 2018 SESAH conference in Manhattan, KS, (Oct 3-6) is now open. The conference will include a keynote by Kansas City architect Bob Berkebile and a Saturday Study Tour of Kansas’ Flint Hills. The deadline for our 2018 Publications Awards is July 15. See our website for details, to register, and to view a report on the 2018 SAH Annual International Conference published by our inaugural SESAH Fellowship recipient, Dr. Danielle Willkens.
