The summer school aims to foster inter-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogues regarding Nature and sustainable development, not only to design suitable future scenarios for Madeira island, but also to initiate new forms of collaboration and research through Nature Centred Design.

The Atlantic Wonder 2019 programme will include the contribution of international experts who will lead the design activities. Local scientists and researchers will guide walks, field trips and explorations on the island.

The Atlantic Wonder Summer School is based on 6 full days of work + 2 days of free exploration. The first days include field research activities and explorations in nature led by local experts. The final part of the programme regards the design of visual narratives and representations about ecosystems, cycles and routes on Madeira island.

International guest faculty include: Gabriele Oropallo (CH/UK), Joana Estrela (PT), Alastair Fuad-Luke (UK/IT), Vanessa de Luca (IT/CH).

Atlantic Wonder is an initiative of the Art & Design Department, University of Madeira. The summer school relies upon close collaboration with local institutions and international organisations.
