Call for proposals for books on architectural history, for Northern Lights
Series editor: Walter Melion, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Art History, Emory University, and Foreign Member, KNAW, Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences
We seek proposals to do with architectural history in Northern cultures, for the new book series Northern Lights, published by London-based art books publisher Lund Humphries.
The series profiles Northern art in its infinite variety, from the medieval
period through to the 19th century. Often the phrase 'Northern art'
conjures iconic works of the Northern Renaissance and the Dutch 'Golden Age'. While welcoming contributions about the artists and works
from those periods, this series also looks beyond 'the usual suspects'.
The extended time period invites authors to explore themes in Northern
art without the constraint of conventional chronological boundaries.
The expansive geographic coverage offers the potential to highlight the
names and works of artists and movements that haven’t been privileged
in art-historical publishing up to now.
Northern Lights publishes thematic surveys, monographs and
museum-collection highlights on art, artists and architecture across
the global North. The books will be beautifully produced and written by
authorities on the topics. The series incorporates a range of volumes,
from more specialized studies for scholars, to books that are accessible
to art enthusiasts.
Readership: Some of the books will be geared towards scholars across disciplines,
while others will also appeal to general readers - students, history buffs,
museum-goers, or art enthusiasts.
The series will comprise three different groups of book:
• Illustrated thematic surveys to do with architectural history, painting, sculpture, and/or craft;
• Monographs or groupings of Northern artists with a strong
thematic thread; and
• Museum collections of Northern art and the history of
their formation
