The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) respects the privacy of our members and users of our website. This privacy policy explains our practices regarding your personal data and other information we collect when you use our website, sah.org. By using our website, you consent to the policies and practices described in this privacy policy. If our privacy policy changes, we will post those changes on this page to keep you aware of what information we collect and how we use it. We will also notify our members by email of any updates to this privacy policy. This privacy policy was last updated on August 3, 2021.

How We Collect Your Information

Information You Provide

SAH collects personal data you provide to us when you interact with products and services on our website, for example, when you join SAH or renew your membership, sign up to receive emails, register for an event, make an online donation, apply for a fellowship or award, create a nonmember account, submit content to our website, or update your profile. This information may include your name, email address, telephone number, address, affiliation, job title, and other information you submit to us.

Cookies

SAH uses small data files stored on your computer called ‘cookies,’ which help us improve your website experience. Cookies are files that contain information created by a web server that can be stored on a user's hard disk for use either during a particular session ("per-session" cookie) or for future use ("persistent" cookie). SAH uses cookies to facilitate automated activity, store and track passwords, determine appropriate solicitations, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are not used to disseminate significant information about users over the Internet. You may instruct your Internet browsers to opt out of accepting a "persistent" cookie and only accept a "per-session" cookie, but you will need to login each time you visit the website. You may choose to set your web browser to refuse all cookies, but you may lose functionality with some parts of our website.

We may log Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, your browser name, operating system, and other similar information. We may use this information in an aggregate fashion to track access to the website, traffic patterns, and related site information to Google Analytics to understand how our audience uses our website and evaluate the performance of our marketing, content, and products. Users who do not want their data collected with Google Analytics can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-onSee “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.”

SAH sends marketing communications through a third-party vendor (Higher Logic) that provides us with email analytics such as delivery, bounce, open, click, and unsubscribe rates. The system uses tracking technologies that collect information such as your browser type, your operating system, pages you visit on our website, links you click, and other data. We use this information for the purpose of evaluating your engagement with our communications and to provide you with relevant messages tailored to your interests. We offer our email recipients the opportunity to opt-out of further communications in every email. If you want to stop receiving our emails, please contact hdean@sah.org.

Registration Data and Online Forms

You may be required to create an account and/or complete an online registration form on our website when accessing some of our services, such as joining our email list, applying for a fellowship, submitting a paper abstract or session proposal, or registering for our annual conference. The information we collect is stored online in a secure content management system.

If you are presenting a paper at the SAH Annual International Conference, the paper abstract you submitted will be published online and be included in a print book of abstracts that is available for purchase by conference attendees. SAH provides annual conference registrants with an attendee roster, which includes personal information such as name, affiliation, and address. We offer you the opportunity to opt out of appearing in the attendee roster when you register for the conference.

SAH does not store credit card account information provided by its members and customers. For credit card transactions, we use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology to transmit personally identifiable information to our server.

Third-Party Vendors and Service Providers

Some of SAH’s products and services are provided through contractual agreements with service providers and other third parties. We and our service partners may use your personal information to operate our sites and deliver their services. These third-party vendors may use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies to provide services to us. Among them are:

  • MemberSuite – We use MemberSuite’s association management software (AMS) to maintain member records and nonmember account information, collect fellowship and award applications, and collect registration data and payment information.
  • Higher Logic – We use Higher Logic’s Informz email marketing automation system to communicate with our members and subscribers.
  • Google Analytics – We use Google Analytics to track website analytics, user demographics, and behavior on the website, which allows us to understand how visitors use the site and to improve the functionality of the site.

SAH is not responsible for the use of any personal information that you provide to other sites accessible through our site, as such use is not subject to our control and is governed by the privacy policies and terms of service on those websites.

Social Media

When linking to or accessing our website or information on or through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media, your activities are subject to the Terms of Service, User’s Agreement and other terms and conditions imposed by that social media provider.
