On behalf of the Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL), I am pleased to announce that Barbara Opar has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the AASL Distinguished Service Award. Ms. Opar has demonstrated outstanding and sustained service to the profession of architectural librarianship through active participation, advocacy, and leadership in AASL and related organizations.

Ms. Opar is currently a librarian at Syracuse University where her career started as an architectural bibliographer in 1973. A former president of AASL, Ms. Opar has distinguished herself as a key contributor to AASL’s lists of core periodicals and reference works which have served as essential guides for the profession. Since 2010 she has edited the widely read AASL column in the newsletter of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. Beyond AASL, Ms. Opar has been actively involved in the Art Libraries Society of North America and the Visual Resources Association, and since 2001 she has served as Booklist Editor of the Newsletter of the Society of Architectural Historians. Ms. Opar will be presented with her well-deserved award at AASL’s annual conference which will take place March 17-19, 2015, in Toronto.
