Four SAH Members create digital open access PLATFORM

by SAH News | Jun 27, 2019
Four SAH Members have created PLATFORM, a digital forum for conversations about building, spaces and landscapes.  Created and edited by Swati Chattopadhyay, Marta Gutman, Zeynep Kezer and Matthew Lasner, it is a new open digital venue for exchanging ideas about working with, researching, teaching, and writing about buildings, spaces and landscapes.

From the PLATFORM website, "Our goal is not to replicate the format of an academic journal, but offer an alternative venue for timely, rigorous and relevant conversation on the role of the built environment and space, broadly constituted."

Current articles on PLATFORM  include:

  • Kishwar Rizvi discusses the complexities of teaching Islamic architecture in "The Other Side of Paradise, or 'Islamic' Architectures of Containment and Erasure."
  • Nancy Kwak argues against U.S. efforts to intervene in Global South housing markets in "The Trouble With Mass Homeownership."
  • David R. Ambaras and Kate McDonald launch a three-part series on their Scalar project Bodies and Structures 1.0: Deep-Mapping Modern East Asian History in "Building a Multivocal Spatial History: Scalar and the Bodies and Structures Project (Part 1)."
  • Joseph Heathcott presents photographs documenting public neglect of Wheeling, W.Va., and St. Louis in "Urban Agenda: Beneath National Party Politics Lay Cities in Grave Distress."
  • Annmarie Adams visits a participatory exhibition in Montreal in "What Now? Thoughts on Exhibiting the History of Architectural Activism," with photographs by Michael Kurt Mayer.
  • Mira Rai Waits reflects on the experience of being grounded on a flight en route from New York to New Delhi in "The Politics of Airspace."
