Applications Open for the 2026 SAH Publication Awards

The Society of Architectural Historians is accepting submissions for the 2026 SAH Publication Awards and SAH Film and Video Award. Each year, the Society presents awards honoring the most distinguished works in architectural history, exhibition catalogues, preservation, landscape history and urban history that have been published in the previous two years.

Descriptions of the SAH Publication Awards follow:

Alice Davis Hitchcock Book Award
Established in 1949 to recognize annually the most distinguished work of scholarship in the history of architecture published by a North American scholar

Historic Interiors Article Award
First awarded in 2025, this award recognizes a significant contribution to the study of historic interiors

Antoinette Forrester Downing Book Award
Presented for the outstanding publication devoted to historical issues in the preservation field

Exhibition Catalogue Award
Presented for excellence in published exhibition catalogs

Spiro Kostof Book Award
Presented for the work that, focusing on urbanism and architecture, provides the greatest contribution to our understanding of historical development and change

Elisabeth Blair MacDougall Book Award
Presented for distinguished scholarship in the history of landscape architecture or garden design

JSAH Founders' Award
The Founders' Award is given annually for an article published by an emerging scholar in the preceding two years in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians that exhibits excellence of scholarship and presentation. No nominations for this award are needed as all eligible articles are considered.
