It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our members: the architect, urban planner, professor, researcher, and colleague Ruth Verde Zein.
The Latin American Architecure Histories affiliate group shared the following message in their newsletter:
We remember Ruth with affection as one of the signatories of the letter of support for Latin American Architectural Histories to become an affiliate group of the Society of Architectural Historians, reaffirming her commitment to strengthening our
community and the reflections that emerge from it.
Ruth will be remembered as one of the foremost voices in the theory, criticism, and historiography of architecture and urbanism in Brazil, with a significant contribution to the critical thinking of the discipline as a whole.
Her work represents a fundamental voice from and for Latin America, building connections, training new generations, and being internationally recognized for her sharp intellect.
Her legacy goes beyond scholarly production: it includes her generosity, commitment, and inspiration.
We stand in solidarity with her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives and work were touched by her presence.
Ruth joined SAH in 2014. She served as a session chair for annual conferences in 2015 and 2018. She was awarded a Senior Scholar Annual Conference Fellowship, when she served as a speaker in 2016.
