New Affiliate Group: Latin American Architectural Histories

Nov 28, 2023 by SAH News

The Society of Architectural Historians is pleased to announce the formation of the Latin American Architectural Histories Affiliate Group (LAAH), co-chaired by Valentina Dávila, Ingrid Quintana-Guerrero, and Valentina Rozas-Krause.

LAAH aims to create a visible community for architectural histories about Latin America, coordinate efforts to produce innovative work on Latin American architectural histories in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and disseminate research on the history of Latin American architecture. The group will also organize workshops, meetings, virtual sessions, and roundtables.

LAAH seeks members interested in creating or disseminating topics related to Latin America as “an intricate concept composed of manifold combinations of peoples, identities, languages, cultural representations, and geographies.” Architectural historians and practitioners studying Latin American topics including Latin American diasporas and work by Latin American architects around the world are invited to participate in the group.

LatinX scholars and those who identify as part of the global Latin American community are also welcome to join LAAH. The group is interested in creating mentorships for Latin American and LatinX junior scholars and graduate students in architecture, art history, historic preservation, landscape architecture, urban planning, and related disciplines.

Current SAH members can join LAAH and other SAH Affiliate Groups by emailing membership@sah.org. New and renewing SAH members will have the option to join LAAH when purchasing their membership.
