Join us for a vital town hall to discuss the pressing challenges and shifting realities of academic life. This listening session is an opportunity to hear directly from members across all career stages, institutions, and backgrounds.
You’ll participate in breakout rooms organized around key themes to share your experiences, raise concerns, and offer suggestions for how SAH can better support its community.

The Changing Landscape of Academia
Discuss academic freedom, ideological pressures, institutional responsibilities, and how universities are responding to today's sociopolitical climate.
Research, Funding, and Scholarly Support
Explore challenges in securing grants, the future of research (especially in the architectural history), and institutional support for scholarly work.
Careers, Equity, and the Academic Workforce
Address the job market, the precarity of junior and non-tenure-track faculty, mentorship, and pathways to a more equitable academic future.
Why This Matters
This is a listening session, not a panel or presentation. Our goal is to gather your input, identify key themes, and share a summary of what we hear with the SAH community—anonymized to protect confidentiality. We want to understand how SAH can serve as a facilitator and advocate for our members across the globe. We can work together to provide better support during a time of great change in academia.

To ensure respectful and inclusive discussion, please follow these principles:
- Listen actively and with empathy. Let others speak without interruption.
- Speak from your own experience. Use “I” statements when possible.
- Respect differing perspectives. Debate ideas, not individuals.
- Be concise. Make space for others to contribute.
- Stay focused. Keep the discussion on topic.
- Maintain confidentiality. What’s said in the room stays in the room.
