On December 1st individuals around the globe took a moment in the busy holiday season to show their support for nonprofit and charitable organizations. If you missed the chance to give on #GivingTuesday, we still invite you to make a donation to support the SAH IDEAS Research Fellowships for underrepresented graduate students and emerging professionals of color. The $1,000 fellowships will support SAH’s efforts in actively seeking to increase the representation of emerging scholars and graduate students of color in architectural history and research in topics such as race, gender, social and economic justice, inclusion, disability and climate change, as they may intersect with the study of built environments, interiors, landscapes, and urbanism.
While we always welcome donations to support the work of SAH, a gift for #GivingTuesday will make a greater impact. An SAH Board member has generously offered to match each gift dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 during #Giving Tuesday.
Just select #GivingTuesday when making your gift.
The SAH IDEAS Research Fellowships further the goal of SAH’s recently formed IDEAS Initiative (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accountability and Sustainability), to examine its status quo and implement activities for meaningful and sustainable change in all areas including membership, programs, publications, fellowships, awards, opportunities, advocacy, outreach, and every aspect of SAH’s work. The Fellowships are an extension of the work being done by SAH’s new Affiliate Groups, particularly the SAH Minority Scholars Affiliate Group, the SAH Race in Architectural History Affiliate Group, and the SAH Asian American & Diasporic Architectural History Affiliate Group, to encourage and promote the untapped potential of young scholars of color as well as research on topics that are not strongly represented in architectural history.
SAH will further support Fellowship recipients’ research by providing opportunities to publish their work in SAH resources such as SAH Archipedia, the SAHARA image archive, SAH Commons, the SAH blog, and JSAH Field Notes and Findings.
Please mark your calendar to support this important work on #Giving Tuesday, December 1, 2020, and share with your friends and colleagues.
The SAH IDEAS Research Fellowship application guidelines and selection process will follow the process and timelines of other SAH fellowships. The initial fellowships would be awarded in May 2021, with the application process to open on February 1, 2021. The members of the newly formed SAH IDEAS Committee will serve as the review and selection committee.
