The Architectural League President's Medal Celebration of Andrew Freear

Please join us on the evening of June 1 at 7 pm, for a special program as The Architectural League presents its 2020 President’s Medal to Andrew Freear, director of Rural Studio in Newbern, Alabama. The President’s Medal is the highest honor bestowed by the League.

Andrew Freear and Rural Studio have developed an influential model of architectural pedagogy that emphasizes design education through making, the generative role of material constraints, and the discipline of achieving design quality while hewing to stringent budgets. Rural Studio’s work and research encompasses buildings, natural, and economic systems, and a deep engagement with local communities to discern “what should be built, rather than what can be built.”

Commentaries and tributes will be made by Marlon Blackwell, Billie Tsien, Paul Lewis, Rosalie Genevro and many others.

Attendees will not be visible or audible during the webinar.
