Crown Hall to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Edith Farnsworth House's opening to the public on May 1st, 2004 thanks to a joint effort by Landmarks Illinois and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In attendance and participating will be the many individuals who have worked in different capacities over the last twenty years to ensure that the Edith Farnsworth House can be experienced by local as well as international visitors.
Although there are many Chicagoland buildings worthy of discovery, the collaboration between a pioneering patron (Dr. Edith Farnsworth) and her architect (Mies) make this particular site worthy of our continuing support.
Additionally, As part of the evening's festivities we will be sharing for the first time the new book The Edith Farnsworth House: Architecture, Preservation, Culturewhose publication was supported by the National Trust and IIT’s College of Architecture and PhD Program. This new book contains a full transcription of the chapters of Dr. Edith Farnsworth’s Memoirs concerning her commissioning and building of the house.
