Cincinnati photographer Thomas R. Schiff has built a reputation on his panoramic photographs of buildings from museums and libraries to the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. On display now through October 19 at the Cincinnati Museum Center is an exhibit of Schiff's photos of civic architecture in the United States.

"Civic Architecture: The Panoramic Photography of Thomas R. Schiff" is the exhibit title (https://www.cincymuseum.org/civic-architecture/). Over the centuries, architects of capitols, courthouses and even libraries have sought to both project confidence in the democratic process and invite citizens to participate. Through the sweeping panoramic photography of Thomas R. Schiff, Civic Architecture celebrates and studies that nation’s long tradition of civic architecture.

From small county courthouses to the U.S. Capitol, consider how we express our highest ideals in the structures of our buildings. See how these civic structures have changed – from exalted temples to organic forms – and consider how these centers of government have sought to rise above or blend in with their surrounding landscapes.

For those unable to see Schiff's photos in person, an accompanying book called "Civic Architecture Across America: Extraordinary Views" is available through publisher Ohio University Press (https://www.ohioswallow.com/9780821426562/civic-architecture-across-america/).

The book is divided into regions with introductions by Benjamin A. Bross, Nicholas Cates, Bradford C. Grant, Susan Kern, Alex Nyerges, Jeffrey Tilman, and Richard Guy Wilson.
