SAHARA Moves to JSTOR: What You Need to Know

Feb 20, 2024 by SAH News

The SAHARA collection has moved to its new home on the JSTOR platform. You can still access the old SAHARA site until the legacy Artstor site is retired on August 1, 2024; please note that images are no longer published to that site. We are still migrating images from the Artstor site, so you will see the collections grow over the coming months.

Accessing SAHARA:

  • Go to the new SAHARA homepage: https://www.JSTOR.org/site/sahara
  • You can sign into the SAHARA archives on JSTOR using the same login you were assigned for the old SAHARA platform.
  • If you have access to JSTOR through your institution, please ensure you are using the same email address that you use with the SAH accounts—this will bring all the collections together in your searches.
  • There are two collections in SAHARA:
    • The Members’ Collection is only available to logged-in SAH members
    • The Public Collection is open access, available to anyone searching in JSTOR
  • You can search on all JSTOR content or just images. Use the options on the left side to filter your searches.

Image Groups (now Workspace)

  • If you have saved image groups on the old platform, they will be moved to SAHARA on JSTOR automatically beginning on February 1. You will receive a notice when your image groups are available.
  • The new image group function is called Workspace, and each of your copied image groups will appear as a folder with the same name as its corresponding image group on Artstor. You can continually add to or remove images in a folder, and rearrange them. Learn more here.

Collection Contributors

  • You still contribute the same way, through JSTOR Forum, but now you will see two different publishing targets:
    • SAHARA Members' Collection (use if you wish to restrict access to SAH members only)
    • SAHARA Public Collection (use if you want to provide open access to anyone)
    • IMPORTANT: Select only one target. Your images will not publish correctly if you choose both.
