Announcing the SAH Mentorship Program: A New Opportunity for Professional Growth

The Society of Architectural Historians is pleased to announce the launch of its new Mentorship Program to support its members at pivotal moments in their careers—whether they are just starting out, preparing for promotion, or pursuing new directions.
SAH members are invited to complete a survey for either the Mentor or Mentee roles, indicating their professional focus, subject area expertise, geographic experience, and mentoring goals. The Mentorship Program Committee will match mentees with experienced mentors who share similar interests or can provide insight into their goals. Applications are now open for both mentor and mentee roles, with a deadline of Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Apply as a MENTOR | Apply as a MENTEE
The Mentorship Program will take place over a two-year cycle. Mentor-mentee pairings will be notified by November 1, and the mentorship relationships will officially begin on January 1. Mentors and mentees are expected to meet at least six times over an 18-month period (through August 2027), primarily online. Their first meeting will focus on setting clear goals and expectations. Together, each pairing will explore challenges, opportunities, and strategies for advancement in fields related to architectural history.
Mentees can expect to gain personalized career guidance, insight into research or publication strategies, and valuable professional connections. Mentors, in turn, will have the opportunity to reflect on their own career paths, share accumulated wisdom,
and contribute meaningfully to the future of the field.
SAH intends these relationships to be grounded in mutual respect, clear communication, and a shared commitment to professional development. A code of conduct and mentorship agreement will ensure that the experience is rewarding, thoughtful, and confidential
for all participants.
Whether you are seeking direction or are ready to offer guidance, the SAH Mentorship Program is an enriching way to engage with the SAH community.

SAH membership is required to participate in this program. Priority in matchmaking will be given to applicants who are active members. If you are a not yet a member and given a match, you will be asked to purchase a membership in addition to signing the program disclosure form to be eligible to participate. Please note that Affiliate Access passes do not qualify you for member benefits, and do not fulfill the membership requirements of this program.

At the center of SAH Celebrates is the Charnley-Persky House (1891–1892), a National Historic Landmark and a Chicago Landmark designed by Louis Sullivan with assistance from Frank Lloyd Wright, that serves as SAH headquarters. SAH Celebrates highlights the importance of fostering a supportive community whose efforts ensure the stewardship of architectural gems like the Charnley-Persky House.
Proceeds benefit the ongoing maintenance and care of the Charnley-Persky House and SAH's educational programs and publications, including SAH Archipedia and Buildings of the United States.
